The B29 Blue Brick is a weighted base that holds alignment rods at set angles, so swing plane, path and impact drills that normally need a rod pushed into the turf work on a hitting mat, in a garage or inside a golf simulator. It was designed by instructor Clay Ballard, co-founder of Top Speed Golf, and is sold by Shotcraft Golf. Jay Lasco, host of Golf Simulator Videos, reviewed it on GSV's channel after using it with a local high school golf team. This page covers what is in the box, the 11 slots and the drills they set up, how it works in a simulator, the price and the GSV code to try at checkout, from the maker's own pages as of October 2026.

The short answer
- What it does: holds one or two rods at angles set from tour swing data, so you can swing under a shallowing rod, along an inside path or into a set impact position, with instant feedback when you hit the rod.
- Why it suits a simulator: there is no turf to push a rod into on a mat. The brick stands on its own, and the maker says you can practice indoors without hitting balls.
- Who it helps most: golfers who come over the top, get stuck, or want cleaner contact with wedges and irons.
- The code: GSV's code is GSV25. Blue Brick accepts it some of the time, not always, so try it at checkout.

The 11 slots
- 3 shallowing slots, set to tour-average swing planes for a driver, a 6-iron and a sand wedge. Clubs in between use the nearest one; the maker says the 6-iron slot works for a 7-iron.
- 1 inside swing path slot, to train an inside-out path and a draw.
- 1 wedge impact slot, for forward shaft lean at impact.
- 1 wedge launch slot, set to a 30 degree launch.
- 2 square divot slots, for angle of attack and square contact.
- 3 alignment and ball position slots, for aim and where the ball sits in the stance.
The drills
The basic setup is the same for each: put a rod in the slot for your club, aim the second rod at the target, and swing without touching the first rod. Touching it on the way down means the swing is too steep. The drill videos that come with it, in Blue Brick's own titles:
- Shallowing Drills, parts 1 and 2: swing under the shallowing rod, starting with slow, short practice swings and adding speed. The maker also uses them to keep posture through the swing.
- Setup Adjustments for Shallowing.
- Inside Swing Drills: a rod in the inside path slot, to train an inside-out path and a draw.
- Wedge Impact Drills: forward-leaning, ball-compressing impact with the wedge impact slot.
- Square Divots and Angle of Attack Drills: the two square divot slots, for clean contact.
- Pro Practice Routine, a demo and unboxing, and more.
Blue Brick lists more precise putting among its benefits and says it works from driver through putter, and Top Speed Golf's Blue Brick page says it can help ingrain a square putting path and face angle, though neither publishes a putting setup. Full setups for each drill come with the purchase.

Using the Blue Brick in a golf simulator
A simulator mat has no turf to hold a rod, which is the problem the Blue Brick solves: it stands on the mat, the floor or the range, and Blue Brick says it works on grass, on mats and in a garage. In a simulator it works two ways:
- Practice swings with no ball: the maker says you can practice indoors without hitting balls. That suits a room where full swings at a ball are not an option, or a quick session between rounds.
- Hitting balls: set the brick on the mat beside the ball and hit into the screen, so the launch monitor shows whether the drill changes club path and contact.
Blue Brick makes no statement about using it with a launch monitor. With a camera or radar unit, set the brick and rods where they stay out of its view and away from the ball's flight, and check the first few shots read normally.
Swing indoors with caution. A rod is one more thing near the club: set it where a miss hits only the rod, and test every clearance with slow practice swings with your longest club before a full swing. Golf Simulator Videos and its affiliates take no responsibility for your safety, or for any injury or damage, when you swing indoors.
GSV's review
Jay first used the Blue Brick with a local high school team, where many of the players struggled with an over-the-top swing. In GSV's review he sets it up indoors and works through its settings:
- Shallowing, for the over-the-top swing he saw on the team.
- Anti-hook and getting stuck, for the player who comes too far from the inside.
- Wedge launch angle, with the 30 degree slot.
- Instant feedback: touch the rod and you know at once, with no one there to tell you.
- Putting: rods in the alignment slots for a square stroke and path.
One independent review, Michael Leonard's at Wicked Smart Golf, found it a solid choice for golfers who struggle with path, steepness or contact, and wished it were cheaper. It called the brick heavy and bulky to carry, and said it is not for putting or the short game.
Who the Blue Brick suits
- It suits a golfer who comes over the top or gets stuck, a simulator owner who wants rod drills on a mat, and a coach working with several players.
- It may not suit a golfer mainly after putting practice, or one who already has rods and a range with soft turf to push them into.
