Carl's Place makes golf simulator enclosures, impact screens, hitting mats and the parts that hold a simulator together, and sells them online from Milton, Wisconsin. Its DIY kit is one of the lowest-priced ways into a full enclosure, and its PRO frame is big and strong enough to carry the projector and an overhead launch monitor. Here is the whole line: the DIY, PRO, Curved and built-in kits with their sizes and list prices, what each includes and what is sold separately, the screens, the HotShot mat, flooring and mounts, the room each enclosure needs, and what GSV found building three of them. Jay Lasco, host of Golf Simulator Videos, built Carl's Place DIY enclosures in his garage in 2022 and 2023 and a Carl's PRO there in 2025, where it holds GSV's ProTee VX today.

Carl's Place DIY
The DIY kit is the impact screen, a BlackStop surround, steel corner fittings and zip ties, on a free-standing frame of 1 in EMT. The screen has a cable sewn into its bottom edge and runs to the turf, so the picture goes to the floor with no border. Carl's Place gives a fast one-hour assembly. The screen comes in all four of its materials: Standard, Preferred, Premium or High-Contrast Gray.
| DIY size, ft | Ratio | Picture area, in |
|---|---|---|
| 7.7 x 10 | 4:3 | 83.1 x 110.8 |
| 7.7 x 13 | 16:9 | 84.0 x 149.3 |
| 8 x 8 | 1:1 | 86.0 x 86.0 |
| 8 x 10.5 | 4:3 | 87.2 x 116.3 |
| 8.5 x 11.5 | 4:3 | 94.7 x 126.3 |
| 9 x 12 | 4:3 | 99.2 x 132.3 |

Carl's Place PRO
The PRO is the bigger frame, on 2 in EMT. It comes with a one-piece wraparound BlackStop cover for the ceiling and sides, a Premium White or High-Contrast Gray screen, foam inserts, all the frame fittings and a custom assembly diagram with the pipe cut lengths. The 2 in EMT and the back cover's pipe kit are sold separately; the pipe framing kit, a ceiling crossbar for an overhead launch monitor and lighting, safety baffles and the back cover are add-ons. Carl's Place says the frame carries projectors and overhead launch monitors, gives about two hours to put it up, and makes it to the inch.
| PRO size, ft | Ratio | Picture area, in |
|---|---|---|
| 8 x 10.5 | 4:3 | 88.8 x 118.4 |
| 8.5 x 11 | 4:3 | 93.8 x 125.1 |
| 8.5 x 14.5 | 16:9 | 94.4 x 167.8 |
| 9 x 12 | 4:3 | 100.8 x 134.4 |
| 10 x 13 | 4:3 | 109.8 x 146.4 |
| 10 x 15.5 | 16:10 | 110.2 x 176.3 |

Curved and built-in
- Curved: a DIY curved enclosure on 2 in EMT, with a Premium White or High-Contrast Gray screen, BlackStop fabric, steel fittings and elbows, foam inserts, ball bungees and zip ties. Sizes run 9 x 14, 9.5 x 14.5, 9 x 15, 10 x 15, 9.5 x 16 and 10 x 17 ft, 8, 10 or 15 ft deep. The pipe kit, back cover and baffles are sold separately.
- Built-In Golf Room Kit: for a room finished as a golf room, a screen held on cables lagged into the wall plates, with the walls covered in tiles, curtains or padded panels. Carl's Place says it is designed for handy people skilled at home projects.
The room each one needs
From the GSV Sim Builder: the narrowest room and the lowest ceiling each fits for a 5 ft 9 in right-handed golfer swinging a driver, with a layout that has nothing to watch.
| Enclosure | Narrowest room | Lowest ceiling |
|---|---|---|
| DIY 7.7 x 10 | 10 ft 9 in | 8 ft 11 in |
| DIY 7.7 x 13 (16:9) | 14 ft 0 in | 8 ft 11 in |
| PRO 8 x 10.5 | 11 ft 5 in | 8 ft 11 in |
| PRO 8.5 x 11 | 11 ft 11 in | 9 ft 1 in |
| PRO 9 x 12 | 12 ft 9 in | 9 ft 8 in |
| PRO 10 x 13 | 13 ft 9 in | 10 ft 5 in |
| PRO 8.5 x 14.5 (16:9) | 15 ft 6 in | 9 ft 1 in |
| PRO 10 x 15.5 (16:10) | 16 ft 3 in | 10 ft 5 in |
A layout with nothing to watch takes about 17 ft of depth. Check your own room, launch monitor and projector in the GSV Sim Builder or the room size checker.

- HotShot golf mat: $499.95 to start, 1 3/4 in thick, in 4 x 5, 5 x 8, 4 x 9 and 6 x 10 ft, with a hitting strip that takes real tees and foam or gel divot strips.

What Jay found building three
- DIY 16:9, 13 ft wide, 2022: alone, in just over an hour, on Carl's pre-cut, labeled poles that came well packed. The Premium screen was very quiet in an echoey garage, and a 162 mph drive came back only a short way. For a room mainly for golf, Jay recommends 16:10 over 16:9 where the height allows, and side nets were not needed on an enclosure that wide.
- DIY with the screen to the floor, 2023: about an hour and a half alone. The top goes up on loose zip ties, then the screen is drawn up until it just touches the turf. A ball barely came back to the mat, with no loud crack in an empty garage.
- PRO, 15 1/2 ft wide x 15 ft deep x 10 ft tall, 2025: two people recommended for the heavy 2 in EMT; back the screws out of the connectors before fitting the pipes. Hung loosely on zip ties, the gray screen takes a drive with a thud, and a 166 mph drive did not come halfway back. With a high bay light a foot from the BlackStop, barely any light came through. His one wish: a way to run the wiring down a pole.
- A ProTee VX on the PRO crossbar, 2026: Carl's Place's VX mount on the crossbar, then ProTee's own mount on that. Jay did it alone but calls it a two-person job, and running the Ethernet and power took longer than the mounting.

Jay also installed a Carl's PRO at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club. More builds are in the garage golf simulator guide and the Carl's PRO build post.
Which Carl's Place enclosure
- A first build, a garage or a budget: the DIY, with the Premium screen if it fits the budget, as Jay recommends on every build.
- An overhead launch monitor, a frame-mounted projector or a big room: the PRO, with the crossbar.
- A bay that wraps the golfer: the Curved.
- Against the other makers: the enclosure guide sets Carl's Place beside the SIG10, SIG12, SIGPRO Commercial and SimBooth.

Carl's Place questions
Where is Carl's Place located?
In Milton, Wisconsin. Carl's Place sells online, with a showroom by appointment, and offers free, no-rush shipping on most orders in the contiguous US.
How much is a Carl's Place golf enclosure?
By Carl's Place's starting prices in October 2026: the DIY from $999.95, the PRO from $3,409.95 and the Curved from $4,894.95. The size, depth, screen and add-ons set the rest, and the EMT pipe is bought separately or as Carl's Place's pipe framing kit.
What is the difference between the Carl's Place DIY and PRO?
The DIY is a 1 in EMT frame about 5 ft deep, with the screen running to the turf. The PRO is a 2 in EMT frame 5 to 15 ft deep, with a one-piece BlackStop cover, foam inserts and an optional crossbar, and it carries a projector and an overhead launch monitor.
Does the Carl's Place kit include the pipes?
No. The DIY takes 1 in EMT and the PRO and Curved take 2 in EMT, bought from a hardware store or as Carl's Place's pipe framing kit. The PRO's back cover pipe kit is also separate.
How long does a Carl's Place enclosure take to build?
Jay built a DIY alone in just over an hour in 2022, and about an hour and a half in 2023. Carl's Place gives about two hours for a PRO, and Jay recommends two people for a big one.
What size room does a Carl's Place enclosure need?
In the GSV Sim Builder, a DIY 7.7 x 10 needs a room 10 ft 9 in wide with an 8 ft 11 in ceiling, and a PRO 8.5 x 11 needs 11 ft 11 in with a 9 ft 1 in ceiling, for a 5 ft 9 in golfer with a driver, and about 17 ft of depth.
