Garmin R10 vs Rapsodo MLM2PRO: Price, Data, Subscription and Which to Buy

The Garmin R10 and the Rapsodo MLM2PRO are the two best-known launch monitors that sit behind the ball for under $1,000. Both work indoors and at the range, both read club path and angle of attack, and neither putts. The differences are in how they read the ball, what their memberships cost and unlock, and what each needs for GSPro. Here they are side by side: price and cost over a year, data, memberships, software, room, chipping, video and which to buy. Jay Lasco, host of Golf Simulator Videos, has filmed each one for years, and his tests of each are linked below.

Both are at Shop Indoor Golf, where GSV's code GSV5OFF takes 5% off a first order.

The short answer

  • Garmin R10: the lower price, a light radar unit with a 10-hour battery, $99.99 a year for Garmin's course play, and no Garmin membership needed for GSPro. Best for the range and a deeper room on a tight budget.
  • Rapsodo MLM2PRO: two cameras plus radar, with measured spin and spin axis on RPT balls and built-in video of the swing and of impact. Best for golfers who want the video and the cameras, and who will pay for Premium, which GSPro requires.
  • Putting: neither. Rapsodo's MLM2XPRO putts, and so do units beside the ball such as the Square Golf.

Price, and the cost over the first year

  • R10: $599.99 plus $99.99 for a year of Garmin Golf comes to about $700 with Home Tee Hero course play. The range and the shot data work without the membership.
  • MLM2PRO: $699.99 plus $199.99 for a year of Premium comes to about $900, with the first 45 days free. Basic figures and the swing replay work without it.
  • With GSPro: add $250 a year to either. On the MLM2PRO, GSPro requires Premium on top.

The golf simulator cost calculator adds the screen, projector, mat and PC.

Data: radar against cameras and radar

The R10 reads with radar alone. Garmin lists 14 figures on its spec sheet, club path and angle of attack among them, and its accuracy figures are within 1 mph on ball speed and within 1 degree on launch angle and direction. Spin axis is calculated: Jay found it was not read indoors, and side spin was the R10's weak spot against an overhead camera unit.

The MLM2PRO adds two cameras. Rapsodo lists 15 figures, 8 of them measured, spin rate and spin axis among them, read from the RPT ball by a 240 frames a second impact camera. Club path and angle of attack came in a May 2025 update, and Rapsodo's own test against a GCQuad put them within about 1 to 1.2 degrees on average.

For spin indoors, both want special balls: Titleist RCT balls for the R10, which Garmin says read spin up to 30 times more accurately, and RPT balls for the MLM2PRO, which Rapsodo says are required to show spin at all.

What Jay found with each

GSV has not filmed the two side by side, so these are separate tests, each against a camera unit.

  • Garmin R10 against an Uneekor EYE XO (2021): ball speed within about 1 mph on every club and launch direction close, but driver launch lower and side spin sometimes read the wrong way. With RCT balls in 2022, spin was mostly within 100 to 200 rpm of the Uneekor. See the Garmin R10 review.
  • Rapsodo MLM2PRO against a Foresight GCQuad (2023): carry and spin axis close, launch angle about 2 to 2.5 degrees low on the driver. See the Rapsodo MLM2PRO review.

In GSV's under $1,000 guide Jay rates them almost level: the R10 8.2 out of 10, best as the portable option, and the MLM2PRO 8.1, best for video.

Software

  • Garmin R10: the Garmin Golf app for the range, and Home Tee Hero, which got its own app with Garmin's R50 graphics in January 2026. Also E6 Connect on iPhone and iPad, Awesome Golf, GSPro and TGC 2019.
  • Rapsodo MLM2PRO: Rapsodo's Range, Target Range and Courses, R-Cloud, and from October 2026 a free Rapsodo PC app for owners. Also GSPro, E6 Apex, E6 Connect and Awesome Golf.

The GSPro guide covers GSPro's price, courses and PC, and GSPro compatible launch monitors what each unit needs.

Room and placement

Both sit on the floor behind the ball on the target line, so neither moves between left and right-handed golfers. By the makers: the R10 6 to 8 ft behind the tee with the tee at least 8 ft from the net, and the MLM2PRO 6.5 to 8.5 ft behind with 8 ft to the net.

In the GSV Sim Builder, a room 14 ft wide with a 10 ft ceiling and a 5 ft 9 in golfer needs 15 ft 6 in of depth for the R10 and 16 ft for the MLM2PRO, and 17 ft for either with nothing to watch. A unit beside the ball, such as the Square Golf, works from about 14 ft 4 in. Check your own room in the room size checker.

At the driving range

Both are built for it, and radar sees the whole ball flight outside. Jay notes the R10 sees more flight at the range and needs no RCT ball there, and that the MLM2PRO really thrives outdoors with ordinary range balls. The R10's battery is rated at up to 10 hours.

Chipping and putting

  • MLM2PRO: read 3 yd chips consistently in Jay's testing, and 2 yd with the unit about 6.5 ft back.
  • R10: chips show launch angle and direction fine, but on short shots there is not enough movement for the radar to give attack angle, path or face, in Jay's 2026 testing.
  • Putting: neither reads a putt. Home Tee Hero uses auto-putt rings, and GSPro gives the putt. Rapsodo told Jay it has no plans to add putting to the MLM2PRO.

Swing video

This is the clearest difference. The MLM2PRO films the swing down the line and the club meeting the ball with its own cameras, so a fat or closed strike shows in the replay. The R10 records swing clips through the paired phone's camera, and Garmin Golf stores them in the cloud with a membership.

Which to buy

  • The R10 for the lowest cost, range practice, Home Tee Hero, and GSPro without a second subscription.
  • The MLM2PRO for swing and impact video, measured spin indoors on RPT balls, and Rapsodo's software, with Premium budgeted in.
  • Neither for a room under 15 ft 6 in deep (16 ft for the MLM2PRO) or for putting: a unit beside the ball fits better. The launch monitor finder sorts the options by budget and room, and the launch monitors under $1,000 guide compares them with the Square Golf and the MLM2XPRO.

Every GSV code for both is on the Garmin discount code and Rapsodo discount code pages.

Garmin R10 vs MLM2PRO questions

Which is more accurate, the Garmin R10 or the Rapsodo MLM2PRO?

GSV has not tested them side by side. Against camera units, the R10 was within about 1 mph on ball speed but missed some side spin, and the MLM2PRO was close on carry and spin axis but read launch about 2 degrees low. The MLM2PRO measures spin axis on RPT balls; the R10 calculates it.

Which is better for an indoor golf simulator?

For spin and video indoors, the MLM2PRO, with RPT balls and Premium. For the lowest cost with GSPro and no second subscription, the R10. In a room under 15 ft 6 in deep, neither: a launch monitor beside the ball fits better.

Do the Garmin R10 and the MLM2PRO need a subscription?

Both work without one for basic data. Garmin Golf, $99.99 a year, adds Home Tee Hero courses. Rapsodo Premium, $199.99 a year after a 45-day trial, adds spin, club data, courses and GSPro access.

Do both work with GSPro?

Yes. GSPro lists both as officially supported. The MLM2PRO needs a Rapsodo Premium Membership for it; GSPro names no Garmin membership for the R10.

How much room do the R10 and the MLM2PRO need?

Both sit behind the ball: the R10 6 to 8 ft and the MLM2PRO 6.5 to 8.5 ft, with 8 ft to the net. In the GSV Sim Builder, a 14 ft wide room with a 10 ft ceiling and a 5 ft 9 in golfer needs 15 ft 6 in for the R10 and 16 ft for the MLM2PRO.

Can either one putt?

No. Neither reads putts. Garmin's Home Tee Hero uses auto-putt rings and GSPro gives the putt. Rapsodo's MLM2XPRO and units beside the ball, such as the Square Golf, putt.

Which is better at the driving range?

Both work outdoors with ordinary balls, and radar sees the whole flight outside. The R10 has a battery rated up to 10 hours by Garmin; the MLM2PRO adds swing and impact video.
