SkyTrak ST MAX Review 2026: Accuracy, Room Size, Memberships and Price

The SkyTrak ST MAX is SkyTrak's current launch monitor: a photometric camera for the ball and dual Doppler radar for the club, sitting on the floor beside the ball. This review covers what changed from the SkyTrak+, what Jay found testing it, the data it gives, the room it needs, the software and memberships, the price, and who should buy one. Jay Lasco, host of Golf Simulator Videos, has filmed SkyTrak units since the original and runs an ST MAX on an Elite membership in his own simulator.

The short verdict

• Good at: simple setup, steady ball and club data, a small footprint beside the ball, SkyTrak's own app with Foresight and TrackMan courses on Windows, Mac, iPad and Android, and GOLFTEC speed training.
• Watch for: a yearly membership for course play, a small shot delay, the ball placed on a laser dot, no place on GSPro's official list, and a 6-month warranty.
• Best for: a home simulator where the golfer wants to set it down and play, in a room too short for a radar unit behind the ball.

What changed from the SkyTrak+

Out of the box the ST MAX looks like a SkyTrak+ in charcoal gray, in the same case. The differences Jay found:

• Two USB ports: one for power and one for data, so the unit can stay charged while it is wired to the computer. On the SkyTrak+ it could not do both.
• Steadier internals: SkyTrak re-stabilized some components inside. In Jay's words it is "still going to be the same accuracy, same type of delay".
• Speed training: a GOLFTEC speed training mode in SkyTrak's app, with its own long drive range.

SkyTrak lists the same camera-and-radar technology and the same data as the SkyTrak+, and Jay understood the accuracy and delay to be unchanged. The two are compared in full on SkyTrak ST MAX vs SkyTrak+.

What Jay found testing it

• Speed training (2025): the mode asks for a goal in club head speed or distance, works with a driver or a speed stick, and charts each session against tour average club and ball speed. Jay set a 115 mph goal and beat it at 115.6 mph, and the ST MAX read ball speeds of 164 to 165 mph without trouble, with 167 mph his highest in testing.
• Wedges on the 6.2 software (2026): hitting a 54 degree wedge into Pebble Beach on purpose with cuts, draws and mishits, the club data matched what Jay felt. When the face was closed to the path the ST MAX said so, and a pure strike read path and face at zero. SkyTrak 6.2 also brought new ground and green physics, which in GSV's test made wedges check and release more like the real thing.
• The SkyTrak+ before it (2023): fades and draws on an 8-iron read correctly, with path and face to match, and good-strike spin of 7,000 to 7,300 rpm. Outdoors in full sun, the SkyTrak+ matched wedge carries at a 35 yd flag; SkyTrak lists the ST MAX for indoor use.

Two things to know. There is a small delay before the ball flies on screen, improved since the original SkyTrak but still noticeable. And SkyTrak told Jay that club path and face angle are calculated rather than read directly, most confident on wedges.

That is SkyTrak's own list for the ST MAX. Golfers fitting a driver around angle of attack will want a unit that gives it; the launch monitor finder filters by club data.

Room and setup

The ST MAX sits on the floor across from the golfer, 15 in from the ball, level with the hitting surface and square to the target line. The ball goes on SkyTrak's red laser dot, and in Jay's SkyTrak+ testing it still read a ball half an inch below or an inch behind the dot. The unit takes about 4 by 4 in of floor.

Nothing sits behind the golfer, which is what helps in a short room. In the GSV Sim Builder, a room 14 ft wide with a 10 ft ceiling and a 5 ft 9 in golfer works from 14 ft 4 in deep with the ST MAX, and about 17 ft for a layout with nothing to watch. It connects three ways: its own Wi-Fi, the home Wi-Fi network, or USB. Jay runs his on the home network, where the computer finds it as soon as it is switched on.

Software, memberships and GSPro

• SkyTrak's app runs on Windows 10 or 11, on a Mac or iPad with Apple M1 or newer, and on Android. SkyTrak says no iPhone works with course play.
• Memberships are yearly: Essential $99.99 with no course play, Core: Foresight $299.99 with 50 courses, Core: TrackMan $349.99 with 52, and Elite $599.99 with both. Every plan is on the SkyTrak membership plans page.
• GSPro: SkyTrak is not on GSPro's list of officially supported launch monitors. SkyTrak's course play is inside its own app.

Price, warranty and returns

SkyTrak lists the ST MAX at $2,995. On October 15, 2026, SkyTrak's store had it at $1,695 with a free year of Core: Foresight. SkyTrak covers it for 6 months or 25,000 shots, whichever comes first, and takes it back within 30 days if you are not satisfied. Who should buy the ST MAX

• Buy it for a dedicated indoor simulator with SkyTrak's own courses, ball and club data, and speed training, in a room from about 14 ft 4 in deep that is too short for a radar unit behind the ball (the Garmin R10 needs about 15 ft 6 in in the same Sim Builder room).
