Foresight Sports Premier: Inside The Software That Replaces FSX Play And FSX 2020
Foresight handed me a development build of Premier and cleared it to be shown publicly. Here is every feature that is in it, everything still missing from it, and what it means if you are about to spend money on a Foresight launch monitor.

Features, menus and pricing can all change before launch. Nothing on this page should be treated as final product spec.
Foresight Sports Premier in 30 seconds
Premier is Foresight Sports' all-new golf simulator software, and it is the replacement for both FSX 2020 and FSX Play. It is not a version bump or a reskin. It is a separate platform built from the ground up, with new graphics, a new interface, and practice and course play living under one roof.
It replaces two programs
FSX 2020 and FSX Play both roll into Premier. Neither is being switched off for people using them today.
It is subscription-based
A real change for anyone who bought Foresight expecting a perpetual license. Tiers and prices are not announced.
FSX owners are not stranded
Per the preview, existing FSX software owners land on the lowest tier and keep the courses they already bought.
Shot analysis is the headline
The depth people missed when FSX 2020 gave way to FSX Play is back, and it goes further than FSX 2020 did.
Jay's Take: The interesting part is not that Foresight built new software. It is that they handed a half-finished build to a YouTube channel and asked to be told what is wrong with it. That almost never happens in this industry, and it means the comments on this video are genuinely going to shape the product.

What Foresight Sports Premier actually is
Premier carries both the practice experience and course play in one application. That matters because the last few years of Foresight software split those jobs across two programs with different strengths. FSX 2020 was loved for analysis depth. FSX Play moved the visuals forward and left analysis users wanting. Premier reads as the deliberate marriage of the two.
Existing software is not going anywhere immediately. FSX 2020 and FSX Play remain operational for the people using them today. Premier is simply where Foresight is taking the platform forward.
Connection and setup
I ran the preview on a QuadMAX in club tracking mode with a stickered pitching wedge. Connection was effectively plug and play — power the unit on and the software was connected and ready. Settings in this build cover ball find assist, distance and speed units, whether face angle displays as face to target or face to path, display and performance options including 4K full screen, and independent audio sliders for master, environment and ball sounds.
First-person view is a calibration, not a toggle
Premier supports a true first-person view, but you have to set it up. The software asks for your screen width, your screen height, any offset from the ground to the bottom of the image, the distance from the screen to the launch monitor, and the distance from the center of the hitting area to the front of the unit. Enter those and the ball leaves your screen where you actually hit it. Skip it and Premier falls back to a third-person view with the ball on screen, which is also the current default for shot analysis in this build.
Jay's Take: Take the ten minutes and do the calibration. First-person is the single most convincing thing in the build, and most people are going to skip past it because it lives behind a form full of measurements.
Premier is subscription-based
This is the headline change and the one that will generate the most argument. Anyone who bought into Foresight expecting a perpetual software license is looking at a different arrangement going forward.
Foresight is not leaving existing customers behind. Per the preview, current FSX software owners will be granted access at the lowest subscription tier and will keep the courses and content they already purchased. The stated intent is that someone who bought a lifetime license ends up in a better position than someone who buys hardware and subscribes to the software cold.
Not yet public: tier names, price points, and which features sit behind which tier. Course access looks like a likely tiering lever given how the library is being built. Treat any specific Premier pricing you see anywhere online as speculation until Foresight publishes it — including any figure quoted back to you by a salesperson.
Shot analysis is the reason Premier exists
If one section justifies the whole rebuild, this is it. Shot analysis here is dense, configurable, and clearly aimed at coaches, instructors and club fitters as much as at someone practicing at home. It brings back what people missed when FSX Play arrived, then goes further.
Configurable widgets
Every panel is a widget with its own settings. Choose dispersion, club data or swing video per slot, stack a second widget below, or run full dispersion with no side panel at all.
Core dispersion
Show every shot, or an optimized core grouping currently estimated at roughly 68 percent to your closest average. Outliers fall outside the circle without deleting them by hand.
Club data views
The club data widget switches between a side view, a top view, and a lie angle plus impact heat map. Face to target, club path and strike location sit one click apart.
Custom tiles and zones
Pick which data tiles appear, then assign a zone to any of them. Set a pitching wedge carry zone of 120 to 129 yards and the software marks that corridor shot to shot.
Targets you build yourself
The targets system is one of the genuinely new pieces. Premier lets you place greens, bullseyes and landing zones at any yardage, either by typing the number or by clicking and dragging. Landing zones suit driver and fairway work. Greens and bullseyes suit approach work.
You can nest them. Build a 30-yard green at 125 yards, drop a 12-yard bullseye inside it, then add quadrants to that bullseye to work on a specific miss pattern. Deleting is as easy as placing.
Four analysis tabs
- Table — averages by club, selectable columns including peak height and curvature, delete outliers, edit shots, add tags
- Club — impact heat map comparison, full club data, individual shots or averages
- Split view — two data panels side by side
- Compare — the FSX 2020-style club comparison chart with carry or total, plus 2D side and top views
Tagging and club comparison
Comparisons are built by starting a new club entry and attaching a tag to it. In the preview that meant logging a pitching wedge, then logging a second pitching wedge tagged as an open stance and hitting cut shots with it. The previous club's dispersion stays on screen faded, so both patterns are visible at once. The compare tab then puts them side by side with carry or total distance, curvature, peak height, and 2D side and top views.
That comparison surfaced a real finding in about four minutes: the open-stance cut produced a noticeably tighter dispersion and pushed spin up into the 8,000 range on a pitching wedge that normally does not spin like that. That is the kind of thing a fitter charges for.
Swing video
Premier will support up to four video feeds, with two cameras selectable at once in this build, plus drawing tools. It is not limited to webcams — I ran a global shutter camera and Premier brought it in.
The camera caveat: adjusting exposure and shutter speed enough to freeze a club head needs camera-specific drivers or plugins, and Premier does not carry those for every camera. Foresight is weighing whether to import support for a few popular brands or to partner on a known-good mid-grade camera with plugins included. Also note the live preview does not appear until after your first recorded shot, which will read as a bug if you are not expecting it.

Course play and the course library strategy
The preview build ships with six courses, and I used Pebble Beach for the on-course walkthrough. Graphically it is a clear step forward from FSX Play: refined rough edges, 3D grass carried all the way through to the fringe, properly placed vegetation, drawn-in background detail, and dynamic clouds that visibly form and dissipate.
Greens now carry topography lines showing undulation and direction, which double as your putting read. Useful, though I found them hard to read for speed — optional heat maps or moving lines would help.
Round setup options in this build
- Up to eight players, signed in or as guests
- Stroke play only for now
- Gimme zone distance
- Pin difficulty: easy, medium or hard
- Tee selection
- Mulligans, target indicator, gimme circle, aim line
- Chase start camera and automatic flybys
The two-tier course plan
This is the most strategically interesting thing Foresight disclosed. The library is being built two ways at once. There is a set of hand-finished flagship courses gone through with a fine-tooth comb and made as good as they can be, rolling out slowly. On top of that, Foresight plans to port in large volumes of courses using a mapping system identified in the preview as GolfLogix, which would put thousands of real courses in the library. Those will not carry the same polish, but they would let you play your local municipal track.
Worth watching: which tier of course sits behind which subscription level has not been announced. If the hand-finished flagship courses end up gated to a higher tier, that changes the value calculation for a lot of people. This is the number one thing I would want answered before committing.
What is missing from the preview build
Because Foresight shipped this build expressly to gather feedback, the gaps matter as much as the features. Every item below is a live request, not a complaint filed into the void. If something here matters to you, the comments on the video are currently the most direct channel you have.
Should you buy a Foresight unit now, or wait for Premier?
This is the question I get every time a manufacturer announces new software, and the answer here is more straightforward than usual: Premier is a software story, not a hardware story. Nothing in this preview requires a new launch monitor. I ran it on a QuadMAX, and the connection settings screen shown in the preview includes handedness and tracking mode options rather than anything model-specific.
That said, full device compatibility for Premier has not been published, so if you own an older Foresight unit it is worth asking before you assume.
Buy now if you
Are a coach, fitter or instructor who needs analysis depth. Already own an FSX license, since you land on the base tier and keep your courses. Want first-person immersion on course. Are buying hardware that will outlive several software generations anyway.
Wait if you
Will not accept a subscription model on principle. Play formats other than stroke play. Depend on saved session history. Need a specific course that is not in the six. Want a finished, stable release rather than a beta.
The thing I would actually do: do not let a pending software release stop a hardware purchase you were already going to make, and do not let one accelerate a purchase you were not sure about. Premier has no announced release date. Buy the launch monitor on the merits of the launch monitor.

Two things make this worth paying attention to beyond the feature list. The first is that Foresight is soliciting input on a product that is still moving. They have committed to reading the comments on this video and weighing the specific notes raised in it. Every gap in the table above is a live request.
The second is what Premier signals about direction. FSX 2020 was beloved for analysis depth. FSX Play advanced the visuals and left analysis users behind. Premier replaces both, and it reads as a deliberate attempt to have both. If a development preview is already this complete, the release version has real room to run.
