Garmin R10 Review: What You Should Know and Accuracy Test

By Jay Lasco Garmin R10

In this March 2022 video, Jay Lasco, host of Golf Simulator Videos, goes through what the Garmin Approach R10 measures, what it calculates, and how its numbers compare with a Uneekor EYE XO on the same shots indoors. He tests wedge and 8 iron spin, then talks through the driver.

What the video covers

The R10 is a radar launch monitor, so light has no effect on it. Garmin gives these accuracy figures for what the radar measures:

  • Club head speed: plus or minus 3 mph.
  • Ball speed: plus or minus 1 mph.
  • Launch angle and launch direction: plus or minus 1 deg each.

Other numbers are calculated by Garmin's software rather than measured: face angle to plus or minus 2 deg, apex height to plus or minus 5 ft, and carry to plus or minus 5 yd, by Garmin.

For the test, Jay had the R10 calibrated, level, aligned and set on its own surface, off the hitting mat, so vibration could not affect it. He hit wedges and 8 irons and read the spin next to the EYE XO's. In the description, Jay also corrects an idea that went around at the time: the R10 needs no metal dot and no RCT ball, and Garmin says metal dots only hurt its results.

His view at the time: the R10 gives a lot for its cost, with wide room for error, so ball and club fittings should not be done with it indoors. One correction from Jay: he misspoke on shot 3, where the R10 does show an opposite spin axis.

Where this stands now

This video is from 2022. The R10's current price and the room it needs are in the Garmin R10 review, and Garmin's simulator options are in the Garmin golf simulator guide.

The GSV Sim Builder places a launch monitor in your room at its real distance, with the screen, the mat and the golfer, and checks the fit.
