What the video covers

The video looks at the short game on Square Golf: putting and chipping, with Square Golf running on iOS. Jay treats it as a putting training aid as well as a launch monitor, since it has full putting training that can be used virtually anywhere in a home or apartment. The description sets out how the device works, as Square Golf described it at the time:

• Putt detection: the minimum ball speed it detects is 1.1 mph for putts and 3.4 mph for regular shots.
• Taking a shot: the ball goes in a marked hitting zone. The LED blinks blue while it looks for the ball and turns green when the ball is ready.
• Ball data: even without the club marker, it measures the ball's speed, direction and spin. Three patterned golf balls come with it to measure spin.
• Club data: a club marker on the club adds club path and attack angle, plus face angle in virtual shot mode, which uses the included swing stick in place of a real ball.
• Courses: at the time, 10 courses came with the software out of the box, with 10 more being built.

Also in the box, by the description: a replaceable lithium-ion battery, a USB A-to-C charging cable, a remote control, a welcome card and a safety strap for the swing stick.

Where this stands now

This video is from 2025. Square Golf's current models and prices are in the Square Golf review, and other ways to practice putting at home are in the putting simulators for home guide.

The GSV Sim Builder places a launch monitor in your room at its real distance, with the screen, the mat and the golfer, and checks the fit.
