SkyTrak+ Driver Review and Club Data Info You Should Know

In this May 2023 video, Jay Lasco, host of Golf Simulator Videos, takes the SkyTrak+ through a driver session, swinging at high speed to see whether it misses any shots. He also goes through what golfers should know about the SkyTrak+ club data.

What the video covers

The SkyTrak+ was new at the time of the video. Jay starts with the setup and the key information, then spends most of the 13 minutes hitting drivers, pushing the swing speed up to see if the unit drops any shots, and ends with a wrap-up discussion.

The club data comes from a dual Doppler radar that SkyTrak added in the SkyTrak+. SkyTrak's notes with the video describe the unit this way:

• Club data: the radar delivers club head speed, smash factor, club path and face angle, and SkyTrak applies machine learning models to that data, built with help from GOLFTEC researchers.
• No stickers or special balls: the club data needs no stickers on the clubs, and the SkyTrak+ needs no special balls.
• Camera: an improved photometric camera system for ball data, which SkyTrak says also works better outdoors on mats, so the unit can go from a home simulator to the range.
• Hardware: a hitting area roughly 40% larger, a new onboard processor for faster shot-to-show, 5GHz Wi-Fi and USB-C charging.
• Software plans at the time: the Game Improvement plan covered skills assessment, bag mapping, a practice randomizer, the wedge matrix, Shot Optimizer and shot history, and connected to SkyTrak's simulator partners. The Play & Improve plan added WGT by Topgolf, on iOS only.

Jay said at the time that more SkyTrak+ videos would follow, covering chipping, putting and full course play.
