GOLF+ is the VR golf game on Meta Quest headsets, and the closest thing to a golf simulator that needs no launch monitor, no screen and no hitting bay. It is the official VR golf game of the PGA TOUR, with more than 50 courses, multiplayer, tournaments and a practice facility, all inside the headset. GOLF+ review: the verdict

For a golfer who wants to play real courses at home for the price of a game and a headset, GOLF+ is the lowest-cost way to play real courses at home that GSV has tested. It is immersive in a way a screen is not: the crowds at TPC Scottsdale, reading a green on the grid, walking up to a putt. Swing path and face decide the shot, so draws, fades, splash shots from a bunker and soft wedges all behave the way they should. It is a game, not a launch monitor: there is no ball, so a fat or thin strike never happens, and the numbers it shows are from the controller, not a golf ball.

• Good at: real courses for little money, shot shaping, the short game and putting, multiplayer and tournaments, kids and new golfers, and any room about 7 ft square.
• Watch for: no real ball or real strike, the GOLF+ PASS ($99.99 a year) or single course purchases for most of the library, and graphics that are good for a headset but not at the level of a gaming PC running a simulator.

What GSV found testing GOLF+

Jay tested GOLF+ on a Meta Quest 3S with a DeadEyeVR DriVR Elite in June 2025, on the range, in a bunker and on course. What he found:

• Every strike is a good strike. There is no ball to hit fat or off the toe, so the game rewards path and face rather than contact. A normal driver swing read 170 mph of ball speed and 114 mph of club head speed, still with a slight draw from his in-to-out path; his first, harder swing read about 180.
• Shot shaping works. He hit 7 iron draws, push draws and high cuts on call, and the game showed his club path.
• Distances are adjustable. His 7 iron carried a little farther than his real one, up to 183 yd, which he put down to being hyped up for the video; he found normal swings close to his real distances. GOLF+ has a power setting to match a golfer's own distances.
• The bunker plays like a bunker. Splash shots with an open face came out high and soft, and a chip with a square face from the same sand did not get the launch it needed, as in real life.
• The course experience is the highlight. On 16 and 18 at TPC Scottsdale the stands and the crowd react to the shot, a tap shows the green as a grid with the distance and the slope, and the golfer can walk up and read a putt.
• Difficulty is up to the golfer. Partial aim assist and a putting line help a new golfer; Pro difficulty turns both off.
• The Quest 3S is easy to set up. Its color passthrough cameras set the floor and the boundary almost on their own, and the battery held up through the session while he recorded.

Jay struggles with vertigo and was wary of VR, and found it fine once he was used to it. He calls GOLF+ a good way to get kids and new golfers into the game.

GOLF+ courses

GOLF+ lists more than 50 courses. Three GOLF+ originals come with the game, and the rest come with the GOLF+ PASS or can be bought one at a time. Real courses in GOLF+ include:

• Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill and The Hay, the par 3 course at Pebble Beach
• TPC Sawgrass and TPC Scottsdale
• The Old Course at St Andrews, Royal Portrush and Royal Birkdale
• Pinehurst No. 2, Bethpage Black, Torrey Pines and Riviera
• Muirfield Village, Valhalla and Caves Valley
• Tobacco Road, Sweetens Cove, Lofoten Links and Te Arai

GOLF+ has run its weekly GOLF+ TOUR event on the same course as the PGA TOUR event that week, and ran its first VR Open with The R&A at Royal Birkdale in July 2026, the week of The Open.

GOLF+ game modes and practice

• Play: single player rounds and on-course practice, where a golfer picks a hole and plays it.
• Multiplayer: rounds with friends or public rounds, with match play, scramble and battles.
• The GOLF+ TOUR: daily and weekly tournaments, on Amateur or Pro difficulty.
• Practice facility: driving, approach shots, greenside and bunker play, and putting.
• Analyze: a practice mode that shows the swing path and face behind each ball flight (fade, slice, push and so on) and what to change.
• Immersive Putting: added in September 2026, with a real putter and ball in mixed reality. It needs the GOLF+ PASS and a Quest 3 or 3S.
• Stats: every putt, strokes gained and a handicap.

Meta Quest 3S or Quest 3 for GOLF+

GOLF+ runs on the Meta Quest 2, 3, 3S and Quest Pro. GSV tested it on the Quest 3S, $349.99 for 128GB, which is Meta's lowest-priced current headset and plenty for GOLF+. The Quest 3, $599.99, has sharper pancake lenses and more storage for a golfer who will use the headset for more than golf. Immersive Putting needs a Quest 3 or 3S, and a Quest 2 does not support it.

The DeadEyeVR DriVR Elite club attachment

GOLF+ plays with a bare Quest controller, but a club attachment makes the swing feel like a swing. The DriVR Elite, from $99.95 at DeadEyeVR, is a weighted club attachment that holds the controller. Jay used it for the whole GSV test, and GOLF+ has a setting for each DeadEyeVR model so the club lines up in the game.

How much room GOLF+ needs

Meta asks for a clear play area of at least 6.5 x 6.5 ft for room-scale VR. A full swing with a club attachment needs that space all around, with nothing within reach of the club, a ceiling the attachment cannot hit, and the Quest boundary on. There is no ball, so there is no screen, net or impact wall, and a living room, basement or garage can work.

That is the biggest difference from a launch monitor simulator, which needs room for a full swing with a real club, a ball in flight and a screen. For that, check a room in the room size checker or build it in 3D in the GSV Sim Builder.
