What the video covers

Jay calls the firmware update a step forward in accuracy and performance. His tests with the Square Golf launch monitor show improvements in ball data tracking and in spin measurements, with shot shaping and driver spin as the focus.

The description also sets out how the launch monitor worked at the time of the video:

• In the box: the launch monitor, a replaceable lithium-ion battery, a USB A-to-C charging cable, a club marker, a remote control, three patterned golf balls, and a swing stick with a safety strap for virtual shots without a real ball.
• Club marker: attached to the shaft, it lets the monitor measure club path and attack angle, plus face angle in virtual shot mode. Without it, the monitor still measures the speed, direction and spin of the ball.
• Patterned balls: used to measure spin. Square Golf says a patterned ball and the club marker can improve the accuracy of the readings.
• Taking a shot: the LED blinks blue while it looks for the ball and turns green when the ball is ready. The minimum ball speed for a shot to register is 3.4 mph for a full shot and 1.1 mph for a putt.
• Virtual shots: with the swing stick, the data is estimated from the stick's speed, path and face angle.
• Battery: about 6 hours for a full charge and up to 8 hours of use.
• Software: Square Golf's own app on mobile and PC came with 10 courses at the time, with 10 more being made, and the launch monitor connected to GSPro and E6 CONNECT.
