The Garmin Approach R10 is a pocket-size radar launch monitor that sits on the floor behind the ball and sends every shot to a phone, a tablet or a PC. It is one of the least expensive ways into a home golf simulator, and it also goes to the driving range. Here is what it costs, what it measures and what it estimates, how accurate it was against an overhead camera unit, the room it needs, what the Garmin Golf subscription unlocks, the 2026 Home Tee Hero update, and the simulator software that works with it. Jay Lasco, host of Golf Simulator Videos, has filmed with the R10 since Garmin sent one in September 2021, and the tests below are from those videos.

Garmin R10 review: the short version
For the price, the R10 is a strong practice tool and a fair simulator. Ball speed and launch direction were close to an overhead camera unit in Jay's first test, and wedge and iron carries were good. Its weak points are the ones radar has indoors: spin axis is calculated, not read, so side spin can miss, and driver launch read lower than the camera unit. Titleist RCT balls tighten up the spin numbers. It needs a deeper room than a unit beside the ball, and it does not read putts.
- Buy it if: the budget is under $1,000, the room is 15 ft 6 in deep or more, and it will also go to the range.
- Look elsewhere if: the room is short, putting matters, or full club data indoors is a must. A unit beside the ball, such as the Square Golf or the Garmin R50, suits a shorter room.
Garmin R10 price and what comes in the box
Garmin launched the R10 in August 2021 at a suggested retail price of $599.99, still the list price shops show beside their own. In the box, from Jay's unboxing: the R10, a magnetic tripod, a phone mount, a carry case and a micro USB cable, with a free trial of the Garmin Golf membership.
- Size and weight: 3.5 x 2.8 x 1 in, 5.22 oz without the tripod, by Garmin.
- Battery: up to 10 hours, by Garmin.
- Water rating: IPX7.
What the R10 measures, and what it estimates
Garmin lists 14 numbers: club head speed, club face angle, club path, angle of attack, ball speed, launch angle, launch direction, spin axis, spin rate, apex height, smash factor, carry distance, total distance and deviation. Not all of them are read directly. When Garmin first released its accuracy figures in 2021, it split them like this:
| Number | How the R10 gets it | Garmin's accuracy |
|---|---|---|
| Club head speed | Measured by radar | Within 3 mph |
| Ball speed | Measured by radar | Within 1 mph |
| Launch angle | Measured by radar | Within 1 degree |
| Launch direction | Measured by radar | Within 1 degree |
| Face angle | Calculated | Within 2 degrees |
| Apex height | Calculated | Within 5 ft |
| Carry distance | Calculated | Within 5 yd |
Spin axis is calculated too. Testing RCT balls in 2022, Jay found the R10 was not reading spin axis indoors, only the total spin, and on short chips there is not enough ball movement for the radar to give attack angle, path or face.
How accurate is the Garmin R10? Jay's test against an Uneekor EYE XO
In September 2021 Jay set the R10 7 ft behind the ball with 10 ft of ball flight to the screen, and compared it shot for shot with the Uneekor EYE XO overhead, using Garmin's own driving range so no simulator software changed the numbers.
- Ball speed: within about 1 mph on every club, from a 30 yd chip to the driver. The drives read 153 against 154 mph, 154 against 155 and 154 against 154.
- Launch direction: close: 3.1 against 2.8 degrees on a 9-iron, 4.3 against 4.2 on a 6-iron.
- Short game: a 30 yd chip carried 29 yd on both.
- Driver launch: lower on the R10, 14.9 against 17.8 degrees on one drive.
- Side spin: the miss. Some shots read side spin the wrong way, left where the EYE XO read right. In Jay's words, side spin is either close or has a real margin of error.
His verdict then still holds for the price: the wedge and iron carries are really good, and for $599.99 as a game improvement tool it is a pretty good value. Being radar, it should do better outdoors, where it sees more of the ball flight.
Titleist RCT balls or a metal dot?
Radar reads spin from the ball turning, and a plain ball indoors gives it little to go on. Titleist makes Pro V1 and Pro V1x RCT balls with metal strips inside for indoor radar, and Garmin says they give up to a 30 times more accurate spin reading and up to 50% better carry accuracy on the R10.
Jay tested RCT balls against a stick-on metal dot in 2022, with 8-iron shots and the Uneekor as the reference. With RCT, spin was mostly within 100 to 200 rpm of the Uneekor, 6,246 against 6,442 rpm on one shot, and a few hundred off on a thin shot. With the metal dot, some shots were close and some were far off, 3,000 against 6,245 rpm on a thin shot. RCT balls are not required, but indoors they are the better choice.
Garmin R10 setup and room size
By Garmin, the R10 sits on the floor 6 to 8 ft behind the tee, the tee is at least 8 ft from the net or screen indoors, and the ball can be anywhere in a 2 x 2 ft hitting area that starts 6 ft from the unit. If it stands on a hitting mat, the bottom of the unit has to sit above the mat, and its red alignment line points at the tee and the target.
- Room depth: the radar shares the space behind the tee with the golfer. In the GSV Sim Builder, a room 14 ft wide with a 10 ft ceiling and a 5 ft 9 in golfer needs 15 ft 6 in of depth for the R10, and 17 ft for a layout with nothing to watch.
- Ceiling: the R10 does not care, but the swing does: about 9 ft for most golfers with a driver.
- Left and right-handed: it sits behind the ball on the target line, so it does not move between golfers.
The room size checker runs the same check for the R10 and every other launch monitor in your own room, and the GSV Sim Builder lays it out in 3D.
Garmin R10 subscription: the Garmin Golf membership
The R10 works without a subscription: the Garmin Golf app shows the shot data and the driving range. The Garmin Golf membership, $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year by Garmin, adds the simulator side.
- Home Tee Hero: virtual rounds on more than 43,000 courses, by Garmin, now in its own app with On-Course Practice.
- Swing video storage: swing videos backed up to Garmin's cloud.
- Green contours: for Garmin's on-course devices.
Third-party simulator software has its own price and does not need the Garmin membership. The first year with the membership comes to about $700 at list price, and GSPro adds $250 a year.
The 2026 update: the new Home Tee Hero app
At the 2026 PGA Show, Garmin told Jay that R10 owners get the standalone Home Tee Hero app, so the R10 gets effectively the same experience as the R50 from a graphics standpoint. Garmin released it on January 20, 2026.
- On-Course Practice: pick any hole on any course and hit as many shots as needed from one spot.
- 15 enhanced courses: built from LiDAR data for the terrain, greens and bunkers.
- Custom rounds: the front nine, the back nine or any set of holes, and the lie penalty can be turned off.
- Later updates: up to 8 players, match play, Stableford and skins, forward tees, and adjustable auto-putt rings.
- Devices: an iPhone or iPad with an A12 chip or newer and iOS 18 or later, by the App Store listing, or an Android phone.
Jay played Augusta on it with an iPad Pro and a projector. Spin looked right with an RCT ball, bunker shots lost about 20% as a live penalty, and chipping was fine. One bug at the time: Play On from On-Course Practice moved the ball to where it landed and then would not let him putt.
Garmin R10 with GSPro, and is there a wired connection?
GSPro lists the R10 as officially supported, connects to it over Bluetooth through GSPro Connect, and costs $250 a year on a Windows PC. Garmin itself does not list GSPro among its partners. GSPro does not read putts from the R10, so it uses an auto putt mode.
Wired or USB connection: as of October 14, 2026, Garmin has not announced one. Garmin's 2026 release, its R10 software notes for versions 4.40 and 4.50, and the R10 guides from GSPro and Awesome Golf all describe a Bluetooth connection. The USB port is for charging and software updates. The "USB" in most R10 and GSPro setups is a USB Bluetooth adapter, for a PC without Bluetooth built in.
Versions 4.40 and 4.50, in March 2026, added support for The Stack System, and 4.50 fixed shots in third-party simulators that showed only straight.

The R10 connects to one device at a time. For what each program is like to play, see the best golf simulator software guide, and for the PC, the golf simulator PC benchmarks.
Playing on a TV or a projector
A phone or tablet can drive the big picture. In 2022 Jay ran Home Tee Hero from an iPhone 12 Pro through Apple's Lightning to HDMI adapter into his projector, for a picture almost 12 ft wide. A newer iPad or a PC does the same with an HDMI cable. For the projector, the projector calculator checks which ones fit the screen and the room.
Garmin R10 vs R50, and the other options
- Garmin R50: a camera unit beside the ball with its own screen and software, at $4,999.99. It suits a shorter room and reads more. See the Garmin R50 review and the Garmin golf simulator guide for the two side by side.
- Rapsodo MLM2PRO: radar plus cameras, also behind the ball. See Garmin R10 vs Rapsodo MLM2PRO.
- SkyTrak ST MAX: a camera unit beside the ball. See SkyTrak vs Garmin R10.
- FlightScope Mevo Gen2: see Mevo Gen 2 vs Garmin R10.
Under $1,000, the launch monitors under $1,000 guide compares the R10 with the Square Golf and the two Rapsodos, and the launch monitor finder checks them against your room.

Garmin R10 questions
Does the Garmin R10 need a subscription?
No. The Garmin Golf app shows the shot data and the driving range without one. The Garmin Golf membership, $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year, adds Home Tee Hero course play on more than 43,000 courses and cloud storage for swing videos. GSPro and other third-party software do not need it.
How accurate is the Garmin R10?
In Jay's test against an Uneekor EYE XO, ball speed was within about 1 mph on every club and launch direction was close, but side spin sometimes read the wrong way and driver launch read lower. Garmin rates ball speed within 1 mph, launch angle and direction within 1 degree and carry within 5 yd. Titleist RCT balls make its indoor spin readings much more reliable.
Does the Garmin R10 work with GSPro, and is there a wired connection?
GSPro lists the R10 as officially supported and connects to it over Bluetooth, for $250 a year on a Windows PC. As of October 14, 2026, Garmin has not announced a wired or USB connection for shot data; the USB port charges the unit and updates its software. A PC without Bluetooth needs a USB Bluetooth adapter.
How much room do you need for a Garmin R10?
Garmin puts the R10 6 to 8 ft behind the tee, with the tee at least 8 ft from the net or screen. In the GSV Sim Builder, a room 14 ft wide with a 10 ft ceiling and a 5 ft 9 in golfer needs 15 ft 6 in of depth, and 17 ft for a layout with nothing to watch.
Can you hook a Garmin R10 up to a TV or projector?
Yes, through the phone, tablet or PC running the software. Jay ran Home Tee Hero from an iPhone through Apple's Lightning to HDMI adapter into his projector for a picture almost 12 ft wide. A newer iPad or a PC connects with an HDMI cable.
What golf simulator software works with the Garmin R10?
Garmin's own Home Tee Hero, with a Garmin Golf membership, plus E6 Connect on iPhone and iPad, Awesome Golf, GSPro and TGC 2019. Home Tee Hero became its own app for the R10 in January 2026, with On-Course Practice and 15 enhanced courses.
Do you need Titleist RCT balls for the Garmin R10?
Not required, but recommended indoors. Garmin says RCT balls give up to a 30 times more accurate spin reading. In Jay's test, spin with RCT stayed mostly within 100 to 200 rpm of an Uneekor, while a stick-on metal dot had some large misses. Outdoors the R10 sees more ball flight and needs no special ball.
Does the Garmin R10 work outdoors, and how long does the battery last?
Yes. It is a portable radar that goes to the range, where it sees more of the ball flight. Garmin rates the battery at up to 10 hours, and the unit is IPX7 water rated.
